About Counseling

Counseling and psychotherapy services are offered by Deb Torell, LMFT, LPC through LampLight Counseling, LLC.

Generally, people decide to engage in counseling or psychotherapy because they are experiencing distress in a relationship, a traumatic event or loss, or symptoms of depression or anxiety that seem to be worsening over time.  Perhaps they have tried various ways to manage themselves, but nothing is working well.

Within a warm, confidential, and non judgmental atmosphere,  client and therapist develop a therapeutic relationship of mutual trust and respect. The client and counselor then explore together what is underlying present problems, and work toward growth and healing for the client. As they journey together, the client finds healing for the past, wholeness for the present, and a vision for what may be possible for the future.

Psychotherapy is about seeing a real change or shift occur within, not just learning better coping skills, although that can be part of the process of change.  Daniel Amen, psychiatrist, believes that "the brain is the hardware of the soul."  Changes occur for us when we take the time and make the effort to help our brain function at its best.  For this reason, we consider healthy lifestyle, elimination of addictions, as well as "right brain" interventions such as expressive therapies such as art, music, journaling and writing, movement and sand tray therapy.
